Family Hotel La Grotta in Trentino
for a dream holiday in the heart of the Dolomites

The Hotel La Grotta has a very long history, starting 50 years ago with Nonna Maria, Carlotta’s mom.
The name “ La Grotta” has a very special meaning to her, because it reminds her of her childhood, when one didn’t need much to be happy and every little gift was an immense treasure.
If you feel like taking a walk, 15 minutes away from the hotel you will find a small reconstruction of the cave of Lourdes, which was built in 1888 as a votive offering.
Near this cave there is a house surrounded by the woods where countess Leony Chiarelli used to come spending the summer in the 60s.

At that time Nonna Maria was a little girl and was instructed to bring the countess the numerous telegrams she used to receive. She was well known and people needed to talk to her, which meant some days she had to run to her house up to 7 or 8 times!
When she saw her arriving at the cave, the countess used to welcome her with a candy, a piece of chocolate or some money she then used to buy ice cream.
In 1974 Nonna Maria and her husband Sandro decided to turn their farmer house into a hotel. When they had to decide on a name Nonna Maria said immediately: “I wish to name it “La Grotta”, because to me that means the memory of happy moments”.

With the passing of the torch from Nonna Maria and Nonno Sandro to Carlotta and Alberto, the concept of a family inside the working environment became even more important. Because of this, in 2001 La Grotta became a Family Hotel. We also wanted for the rooms to be an experience of the holiday, just as all the activities we organize for our guests!
From this idea came the concept of Themed Room: a place where kids are left in awe and moms and dads can go back to being small kids too. The first room to be built was the “Squirrel Suite”: after hearing the screams of joy of the kids we decided to embark on the project to turn all the rooms into Themed Suites, to make this dream a reality for every little guest of ours.
